Self-Esteem Counselling

What to Expect

Low self-esteem often isn’t about one bad experience, it’s usually built slowly, through years of criticism, comparison, or feeling like you had to earn your worth. Self-esteem counselling gives you a space to understand where that inner voice came from and build a steadier, kinder relationship with yourself.

How sessions build over time:

When to Seek Self-Esteem Counselling

Struggling with self-esteem doesn’t always look like obvious self-doubt. Sometimes it looks like overachieving, people-pleasing, or never quite feeling like enough, no matter what you accomplish.

An Integrative Approach to Self-Esteem Counselling

Self-esteem counselling at Unraveling with Grace looks beneath the surface at where your sense of worth was shaped, often in childhood or earlier relationships, rather than just offering surface level affirmations. If low self-esteem is tangled up with sadness or heaviness that won’t lift, our depression counselling approach often works well alongside this care.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is self-esteem counselling?

Self-esteem counselling is support for understanding and rebuilding how you see and treat yourself, especially if harsh self-criticism or a sense of not being enough has become familiar. It looks at where that inner voice came from, not just how to think more positively.

Not exactly, though they’re often connected. Low self-esteem is about how you see your own worth, while depression involves a broader shift in mood, energy, and outlook, and the two can show up together or separately.

Yes. Many people who struggle with self-esteem look accomplished or put together on the outside while feeling like they’re never quite enough underneath. That gap is exactly what this work addresses.

Growing up with critical, dismissive, or emotionally immature parents often teaches you to base your worth on approval or achievement rather than a steady sense of self. Counselling can help you notice that pattern and build something different.

No, self-esteem counselling goes deeper than positive thinking. It focuses on understanding where your self-worth got shaped and building a more honest, grounded relationship with yourself over time.

It varies depending on your history and what’s contributing to it, so there’s no fixed timeline. Many people notice a shift in how they talk to themselves within the first several sessions, while deeper change tends to build over a longer period.

The first session focuses on understanding your history and how self-esteem shows up in your daily life, relationships, and self-talk. It’s a conversation, not an assessment, and there’s no pressure to have it all figured out yet.

Yes, sessions are available online across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, or in person in Toronto, whichever fits your life best.

Yes, counselling sessions are confidential, with the standard legal and ethical exceptions that apply to all counselling in Ontario. This is something we can go over in more detail during your first session.
