Rebuilding a life after being displaced brings its own kind of weight, even when you’re safe now. Refugee counselling offers a steady, culturally attuned space to process what you’ve been through and what it means to start again, without having to explain or justify your experience from scratch.
How sessions build over time:
Displacement affects people differently, and there’s no single way it’s supposed to feel. If you’re carrying the weight of what happened before you left, the journey itself, or the pressure of starting over, support can help.
Signs it might be time to reach out:
Refugee counselling at Unraveling with Grace draws on Grace’s own lived immigrant experience and deep understanding of Middle Eastern cultures, alongside integrative, trauma-informed methods. If what you’re carrying includes the lasting effects of war, violence, or displacement, our PTSD counselling approach often works alongside this care.
This work draws on:
Refugee counselling is trauma-informed support specifically for people who have been displaced, whether by war, persecution, or other forced migration. It makes room for both what happened before you left and what resettlement has been like since.
No. Sessions are available in English, Urdu, Pashto, Kurdish, Turkish, Armenian, and Farsi, so you can work in whichever language feels most natural to you.
Not if you don’t want to. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels right, and approaches like EMDR-informed support can help process difficult memories without needing to describe every detail out loud.
Yes. Many people come to counselling for support with the ongoing stress of resettlement, uncertainty, isolation, or family separation, alongside or instead of processing what happened before they left.
Yes. Humanitarian aid workers and helpers often carry the weight of others’ trauma alongside their own experiences, and that’s something counselling can support too.
Yes, counselling sessions are confidential, with the standard legal and ethical exceptions that apply to all counselling in Ontario. Your immigration or refugee status is not something we report or share.
The first session is about understanding your story and what you’re hoping for from counselling, at whatever pace feels comfortable. It’s a conversation, not an assessment, and there’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to.
Yes, sessions are available online across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, or in person in Toronto. Online sessions can be especially helpful if travel or transportation is difficult.
It varies depending on your history and what you’re working through, so there’s no fixed timeline. Some people find steadiness within the first several sessions, while deeper trauma work often unfolds over a longer period.
I’ve spent more than two decades sitting with people in some of the most tender seasons of their lives. That work has taught me that healing is rarely linear, and that the goal is not to erase your story. The goal is to help you hold it with more clarity, more compassion, and more freedom.
Sessions are offered virtually to clients worldwide, including across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar, and India, with limited in-person availability in Toronto.
We are also in the process of organizing in-person gatherings for the Unraveling Circle with Grace. If you’re interested in attending, please contact us to be added to the list for updates and upcoming events.
50 minutes for standard sessions. Extended sessions are available when the work calls for it.

Starting counselling can feel vulnerable. A strong counselling relationship is built through safety, trust, and a shared understanding of what you need. My goal is to offer a space where you feel supported as you explore what is hurting, what is protecting you, and what healing may look like for you.
